FDA Reports Decline in Youth E-Cigarette Use

High schoolers, in particular, are vaping less.

A survey conducted by the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows a decrease in e-cigarette use among U.S. middle and high school students. The 2024 National Youth Tobacco Survey (NYTS) revealed 500,000 fewer youths reporting usage compared to 2023. Largely due to changes in the habits of high schoolers, the numbers dropped from 2.13 million youth (7.7 percent) in 2023 to 1.63 million (5.9 percent) in 2024.

“The continued decline in e-cigarette use among our nation’s youth is a monumental public health win,” said Director Brian King of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products. “But we can’t rest on our laurels, as there’s still more work to do to further reduce youth e-cigarette use.”

The FDA’s action against illicit tobacco products has resulted in the decline of the use of the popular brand Elf Car e-cigarettes. Nicotine pouch use did not show a significant change among youth.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Commissioner Robert Califf as he heads the FDA and oversees the results of the agency’s campaign against smoking and vaping.
  • For Director Amanda Cohen to be discerning as she manages the CDC and collaborates with other federal health officials.
